Mike Gibbs — Founder, Go Cloud Careers

Meet Mike Gibbs

Twenty-five years ago, Mike Gibbs wasn't a technology professional. He was a Nurse Practitioner who wanted to build a career in technology.

Like many aspiring IT professionals, Mike followed the advice everyone gives: get certified. He earned certification after certification, invested thousands of dollars in training, and built an impressive technical résumé. Then he started applying for jobs. And he got rejected. Again. And again. And again.

Instead of collecting more certifications, Mike decided to find out what hiring managers actually wanted. He interviewed recruiters, studied successful candidates, and discovered something that would shape the rest of his career:

Technical skills alone don't get people hired. The professionals who advance into high-paying technology careers are the ones who can communicate, lead, solve business problems, and create value for organizations.

Mike used those lessons to launch a successful technology career that ultimately led to senior architecture leadership roles, including serving as a Lead Enterprise Architect at Cisco — earning CCIE #7417, cloud architect certifications, an MS, and an MBA along the way.

Today, as Founder and CEO of Go Cloud Careers, Mike has spent more than two decades helping aspiring technology professionals land their first IT jobs, transition into cloud and architecture careers, and develop into technology leaders. His students have gone on to work at Cisco, Google, Amazon, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Deloitte, KPMG, JP Morgan, and many others.

What You'll Learn

The 4 Skill Pillars Every Architect Must Master

Most professionals focus only on technical skills. Successful enterprise architects need four critical competencies — and our programs break down each one.

Technical Skills

Cloud architecture design, security & governance, cost optimization, infrastructure, and system design. You'll learn how to architect solutions that are scalable, resilient, and enterprise-ready.

Business Skills

Risk evaluation, ROI analysis, and strategic planning. You'll understand how to align technology decisions with business goals — reducing cost, managing risk, and enabling competitive advantage.

Communication Skills

Gathering requirements, stakeholder alignment, and executive presentations. Learn how to explain complex architecture decisions simply — and get buy-in from leaders and teams alike.

Executive Skills

Executive presence, sound judgment, and a trusted advisor mindset. You'll learn how to speak with senior leaders, justify transformation investments, and influence enterprise-level decisions.

The Curriculum

A Complete 5-Phase System

Every program — Cloud, Security, AI, and Enterprise — is built on the same proven 5-phase system. The framework is identical. The technical content, knowledge, and role-specific skills are tailored to the architect path you're pursuing.

Phase 1
Learn the Skills of a Modern Architect

Before you can become an Architect, you need to understand what they actually do — and it goes far beyond technical expertise.

  • The four critical skill sets: Technical, Business, Communication, and Executive
  • How to design real-world enterprise architectures
  • How architects evaluate business goals, risk, cost, and trade-offs
  • The mindset shift from technology implementer to trusted advisor
Phase 2
Become the Candidate Hiring Managers Want to Hire

Most professionals get stuck here — they know the technology, but can't position themselves as the strategic leader hiring managers are looking for.

  • How hiring managers evaluate architect candidates
  • How to build credibility, trust, and executive presence
  • Communication techniques used by successful architects
  • How to position yourself as a trusted advisor, not a vendor
Phase 3
Build a Portfolio That Proves You Can Do the Job

Your portfolio separates serious candidates from everyone else. We'll show you exactly what belongs in it — and help you build it.

  • Architecture diagrams, solution designs, and migration roadmaps
  • Architecture decision records and executive presentations
  • Cost optimization, governance, and planning artifacts
  • How to showcase your thinking to hiring managers
Phase 4
Position Yourself for Interviews and Recruiter Attention

Great architects get overlooked every day because they package themselves incorrectly. This phase fixes that.

  • How to build an architect-focused resume that highlights business impact
  • How to optimize your LinkedIn profile for recruiter visibility
  • A credential strategy including TOGAF 10
  • How to create content that demonstrates your architecture thinking
Phase 5
Win the Architect Interview

Architect interviews aren't engineering interviews. Hiring managers are evaluating your judgment, communication, and ability to align technology with business goals.

  • The trusted advisor interview framework
  • How to communicate business impact and architectural trade-offs
  • How to demonstrate executive presence and build rapport quickly
  • Common mistakes that cause candidates to fail — and how to avoid them
